People:
Confucius (obviously): 551-479 BCE
Zengzi (major student of Confucius): 500 (I think)-? BCE (can probably be Googled if you need his year of death; don't recall it off the top of my head).
Xun Xi (major Confucian philosopher). Not sure of his lifespan, but he lived during the Warring States period (400s-221 BCE)
Zhu Xi (major Confucian philosopher). Lived during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Events:
First Emporer, Qin Shi Huang, killed Confucian philosophers (among others) who protested his commands to destroy old records, but I don't remember the exact year.
Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 BCE, but there was a multi-decade break from Han rule in the middle) accepts legalism in principle.
Earliest known copy of the Analects - 55 BCE (very fragmented)

Confucius (Kong Fu Zi in Mandarin) lived 551-479BC. He was a student of Lao Zi (lit. The Old Master), founder of Daoism/Taoism.

Confucius travel led over the then states of of China, and taught his message, his philosophy on how humans should interact with one another. Most of Confucian teachings focus on how an honorable man should behave, and how humans should interact with one another in accordance with specific traditional and cultural norms. Confucius upheld that leaders should lead by example of being an honorable or righteous person, and thus those beneath them in society would react also by being honorable and righteous.
