The missionary position?

Most religions relegate women to childbearing and other mundane things... they never seem to be part of the power structure of any religions.

In Islam, in religion, men and women are equal as far as intelligence and spiritual rewards are concerned. In domestic situations, women's are encouraged to have their husband have the final say where there is a dispute, but in business life, women can lead over men. It is said in Islam that men have certain rights over their wives but wives also have certain rights over their men.

Islam - Arguable. Most Muslims claim to revere women but they are well known for their various limits placed on women. Overall, I think they have good intent but they go overboard.

Judaism/Christianity - Both treat women similarly, on a slightly lower level than most men. This, of course, is by modern standards. Back when the religions both started women likely had very little rights, but it wasn't much of a religious issue as it was cultural.

Confucianism - Pretty sure, for its time, it was pretty equality-based, but it still had its limits on women.

Buddhism - Similar to Confucianism, but the religion has evolved and I'd say it treats women pretty fairly minus some of the cultural customs that have stuck for whatever reason.

Hinduism - Varies from extremely restrictive to somewhat equal. I guess comparable to Islam.

in my denomination of Christianity, women are complete equals to men. there is nothing wrong with them being priests and bishops- our head bishop is a woman, and so is my rector- and i stand by that belief to the death.

there is a quote by Matthew Henry, who was a Presbyterian minister from the 1700s, that i use as the summary of my entire view on the whole women in church issue, and, after asking my rector, i found that its actually a very accurate representation of my denomination:
?The woman was made out of Adam?s side. She was not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved.?

Hindus have always given equal respect to women. In India women were highly educated even before Christ.India had the first woman Prime Minister. USA still has no lady President. Buddhism has come out from Hinduism so ID is not separate. Islam has never given equal status to women and always kept them inside the house and has made them to produce children only and that was the reason in India during Muslim rule women were looked down upon and they lagged behind. Christianity do not give proper status to women on equal footings with men. Other religions have made women a symbol of sex only for bringing up family.

I think you may find that most religions treat women as equals.however we find that there can be what appears to be discrimination against women in many of them.Unfortunately I do not think that it was meant to be discrimination, rather it was a commentary on the on the way women were viewed in a particular area at a particular point in time, but some people see it as putting women down.Culture definitely plays a big part in how things are interpreted.

Right to Inheritance

Christianity (Bible) says:......
"Say to the Israelites, 'If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter...'"
Numbers 27:8

Quran says:......

"The men get a share of what the parents and the relatives leave behind. The women too shall get a share of what the parents and relatives leave behind. Whether it is a small or a large inheritance, (the women must get) a definite share. "
Quran 4:7

Dressing Modesty / No Head Covering in Islam (Submissio)

Christianity (Bible) says:......

"Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head...If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head"

1 Corrinthians 11:3-6

"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God"

1 Timothy 2:9-10

Quran 33:59 says............

"O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall lengthen their garments. Thus, they will be recognized (as righteous women) and avoid being insulted. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. "

"And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children who have not reached puberty. They shall not strike their feet when they walk in order to shake and reveal certain details of their bodies. All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers, that you may succeed.."

A Woman's Right to Education
Christianity (Bible) says:......

"let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law, and if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for woman to speak in the church."

1Corinthians 14:34-35

Quran says............

"When the believers mobilize, not all of them shall do so. A few from each group shall mobilize by devoting their time to studying the religion. Thus, they can pass the knowledge on to their people when they return, that they may remain religiously informed. "
Quran 9:122

"Their Lord responded to them: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you MALE OR FEMALE, YOU ARE EQUAL TO ONE ANOTHER........."

Quran 3:195

Women of Islam
1. Islam teaches that men are superior to women Surah 2:228
2. Islam teaches that women have half the rights of men
a) In court witness Surah 2:282
b) In inheritance Surah 4:11
3. Islam considers they are a possession Surah 3:14
4. Islam teaches that women are unclean. Surah 4:43
5. Islam instructs women to veil themselves always when they are outside their home. Surah 24:31
5. Mohammed teaches that women are lacking in mind and religion. (Al Bukhary Vol. 2:541)
6. Mohammed teaches that women are a bad omen (Al Bukhary Vol. 7:30)
7. Mohammed teaches that women are harmful to men. (Al Bukhary Vol. 7:33)

Marriage in Islam
1. Islam allows polygamy Surah 4:3
2. Islam allows a man to divorce his wife by oral announcement Surah 2:229
3. When a husband has pronounced divorce three times on his wife, she then may not lawfully remarry her husband until she has married and been divorced by another man (including having intimate relation with him) Surah 2:230
Islam teaches that a wife is subject to punishment by her husband Surah 4:34

Intimate relation in Islam
Islam considers the wife a sex object Surah 2:223
Unnatural sex is allowed (Al Buhhary Vol 6:51)

Children of Islam
Children have to be raised according to their Muslim father?s religion;
If he divorces you he gets custody of the children and you would?t be able to see your children again. There is no such thing a visitation rights in Islam. The Sharia (Islamic Law) states that in mixed marriages ?the children will follow the better of the two religions of their parents?, which in your case is Islam. The Quran states that Islam is the only true religion. ?The religion before god is Islam.? Surah 3:19) Non ? Muslims can not act as protectors to Muslims. Surah 4:144)

Your Future in Islam

Should a woman survive her Muslim husband, and his wealth in an Islamic country, the Islamic law will apply.
The wife who has not converted to Islam gets nothing, the wife who has converted to Islam gets very little. According to the Quran a wife does not inherit all her husband?s wealth. If the husband dies and he leaves no children, she gets a forth of his wealth, his parents, brothers, uncles?ets, will get the rest. If the deceased husband leaves children, then the wife gets an eighth, the children get the rest; the male child gets double the portion of the female. Surah 4:12

Before the woman says ?I DO?
Before a woman commits herself to marry a Muslim, it is a good idea to examine the motives behind it. Marrying a Muslim is asking for trouble.
You may say that your husband-to-be is a non-practicing Muslim. But let?s not forget that Islam is more than a religion; it includes a complete legal code for Muslims and non-Muslims to follow in an Islamic State. In case of a dispute between you and him, all he needs to do to get the upper hand over you is to travel to an Islamic country.

If you are in doubt about this, may I suggest that you see the movie, ?Not without my daughter? which is based on a true life story.

In Judaism women are absolute equal to men in fact the bible speaks of women as the other half of man and when the two joins in marriage they become whole.

In Christianity women were seen as equals to men but when Christian Gentiles outnumbered Jewish Christians things began to change and women were seen as less than a man's equal but obviously this has been corrected today and men and women are seen as equal as they always should have been seen.

In Islam it is pretty obvious how by the way they are treated. In each household the father has absolute rule much like a despotism government.

In Buddhism it varies by region in some places it is believed a woman can be a Buddhist but can't reach full achievement unless she be reborn as a man.

In Hinduism I would say they are treated fairly well if not better than men. In many of thee art work I see a female deity they worship I've yet to see a male.

In confusion ism I would say it is the same as Buddhism.

Women and men are equal two equal halves that is made complete when brought together. Men and women are used in Jude-Christianity to display the nature of G-D; tender and loving as a mother yet strict and willing to discipline as a father. G-D uses the natures of a godly woman and man to display his awesome nature.
