Default How can Eastern Confucianism and Western Liberalism coexist in harmony?

Is it theoretically possible?

Can a person theoretically be half Confucian and half Liberal? Or are these value systems ultimately irreconcilable?
Can a new breed of philosophy emerge from these two?

Yes it can, the Eastern or Chinese Confucianism lasting for thousand of years will easily merge with the Western Liberalism that is to free it in the modern world.....at the right time. What a match for the benefit of the world.

Think of it like this. Confucians are hard core conservatives. If it weren't for them, China would have ruled North and South America.

Zheng He's voyages have been halted by the Neo Confucians in the Ming Dynasty. Back in their day, Zheng He's treasure ships were huge. 9 masts, and ten times the size of Coloumbus' ship. They were fully capable of taking over North and South America with little difficulty. The Noe Confucianisms would rather look inward rather than outward and beyond.

Liberals would rather look beyond. They always come up with new ideas and are always open to new ideas.

Either way, both groups are close minded. One is close minded to new ideas, the other close their mind off to traditional ideas

Well, i wouldn't say a separate philosophy would merge from the two. If it ever does, it won't be called a philosophy. It would be called having a brain.

I agree with Rup B down there.

It is only extremism which causes discord.

A balanced person can take the best of both beliefs and use it to improve their life and the lives of others.

No, a half is not a full.

half liberal is not liberal, half conservative is not conservative.

if you try your way to negotiate those both, you end up making a new breed of philosophy

Harmony has no relation to any philosophy. It comes from within the mind.No ism's or the merger thereof can produce harmony.Only happy minds can produce harmony.
