Confucianism is all about ethical behavior, beginning with the family unit and expanding to the community, city, and nation then world, like building blocks, so the thing to avoid would be unethical behavior. Confucious' idea of ethical behavior is based on the golden rule, he is credited for inventing it, although he stated it in the negative, which is in my opinion more inclusive of how to act: "Do NOT do unto others that which you do NOT wish done to you." It gives you a broader spectrum than just "Do unto others that which you wish done unto you" . The latter just says do nice things, the former says don't just do nice things, but be sure not to do harmful things.
