Default How is modern Druidism different than 'mainstream' Wicca?

Please educate the ignorant.

First off, the first poster is an idiot for thinking that. Paganism is not Christianity, meaning they do not even recognize Satan, much less worship him.

I don't know enough to write a novel on it, what I do know is that they are both centered on nature, astrology and live and let live. I think the main differences come in the ceremonies and deities.

"Mainstream" Wicca is either a collection of pagan beliefs / practices from a wide variety of sources and has been collected into a now-recognized loosely-knit set of beliefs, or it has been passed down through time via a specific lineage of people, most notably Gerald Gardner. Wiccans will argue quite a bit over which of these it actually is.

A lot of the language and supposed rituals are based on our understanding of Celtic traditions. Some may argue, but I consider "Wiccan" being a broad term (sort of like how "Christian" can include both Catholics and Protestants).

Druidism is the specific practice of Norse spiritual practices. So it has a different set of Gods, and celebrates the holidays differently. It is narrower term, referring to a more specific set of practices than the word "Wicca."

Hope this helps.

While both religious practices have the same Celtic roots, the gods and goddesses are different. Druidism is actually more nature-based, while Wicca is more ceremonial magically based. By Wicca, I mean the religion founded by Gerald Gardner. Check out the sites below at Wikipedia as they are factual.

However, many people practice what they call Wicca, meaning "wise one", as to the actual meaning of the word, which is more in harmony with the word Pagan, meaning "country dweller". So, you have to know how the person you are talking to describes themselves.

There are many ways that they are different. This essay compares Druidism and Wiccan beliefs and practices:

The Druids were the educated class of the ancient Celts. Wicca is not Celtic.

answer: ignore the Christians - pagans don't believe in Satan

as to the question - what the previous people said - especially with the links to Druid and Wiccan sites

Rivergirl - Druidism is Celtic

Asatru, heathenism, Forn Sed, Theodism, Vanatru, Odinism, are Norse paganism.

both Northern European/Anglo-Saxon and Druidic religions are reconstruction religions - attempting to reconstruct ancient religions.

They are very different. Here's some info on Wicca:

And some information on modern Druidry

The differences, I think, are made quite clear when these two summaries are compared.

Modern Druidism is for the modern world. Druidism evolves with time and different cultures.
Also Druidism does not follow a doctrine or a specific book. It is up to each Druid to live through experiences and seek and gain knowledge using their intuition, doorways are opened and Druids explore.
Modern mainstream Wicca follows a doctrine and follows books. Followers are not encouraged to find things out for themselves but to follow others.
