what are the evil god(desse)s of ancient druidism?
i need to know for a report that I'm doing for a history class, so who would be considered a dark god(Des)?
i just need some gods or goddesses that are dark or evil, or both, both would be great
A dark god(Des) is not the same as evil. For example, Kali Maa of Hinduism is considered a dark goddess because she destroys evil. One of her traits is destroying the darkness and negativity in people's hearts, and filling that empty space created with her Divine Motherly love. A dark goddess, a destroyer, but definitely not evil.
You're not going to find an evil god in any faith outside those of Abraham. In the ancient religions 'dark' and 'evil' were not one in the same. The Celtic Goddess Morrigan for example, she was the goddess of battle, strife, great destruction, fertility, and child birth. Above me Kali, the Great Destroyer was mentioned. She was the protector of pregnant, birthing, and nursing women and infants. The skulls on her belt were those of infants who died, forever with the Goddess and protected by her. These faiths embraced a circular concept of time, what dies is reborn, as the moon and seasons are. So even though these two deities carried death and destruction, brought man, woman and child to the land of the dead, they also were the ones who guided souls back to the world of the living and protected the new life. Completing the cycle.
As far as ancient druidism goes,
--"Very little is currently known about the ancient druids as they left no written accounts about themselves, and the only evidence of them are a few descriptions left by Greek and Roman authors, and stories created by later medieval Irish writers."
"not one single artifact or image has been unearthed that can undoubtedly be connected with the ancient Druids."
Various recurring themes emerge in a number of the Greco-Roman accounts of the druids, including that they performed human sacrifice, believed in a form of reincarnation, and that they held a high position in Gaulish society. Next to nothing is known about their Celtic practice, except for the ritual of oak and mistletoe as described by Pliny the Elder.
So, basically, close to nothing is known of the ancient druidICCractices; therefore little is known of the gods/goddesses that they had. In the wake of the Celtic revival during the 18Th and 19Th centuries, fraternal and Neopagan groups were founded based upon the ideas about the ancient druids, a movement which is known as Neo-druid, in which you may find examples of gods. But as far as ancient druidism goes, it is truly hard to say. Well, I hope this helps!
There is one thing you are not recognizing: druidism/druidRys a path NOT a religion. There are and were druids in several of the Old Religions or as they are called now, Trads (short for Traditions). So on your report, you're either going to need to lookup exactly how many Trads there were in which there were druids OR just focus on one of the Trads that you know historically druids were present (i.e., Celtic, Norse, etc).
Look up "Celtic Culture", as "Druid" is a Class, within the Caste-System of Celtic Society.
The Deities within most Celtic Tribes, were associated with Heroes and others of those Tribes, as the Celts knew that "Gods" can not even be known by Men.............so the Celts recognized "Virtues" that COULD be associated with some "Super-Natural" force, and gave people with these Virtues a special place in Lore.
Many Gods and Goddesses had a Three-Fold "personality" such as the Morrigan............but the "Battle-Crow" aspect was was looked at as a Divination of Death on the Battle-Field for a Hero..........not so "bad", as they were being selected for Honor.
Another Aspect is the "Washer at the Ford" who washes the Earthly Miasma from the "Soul" of the Departed, so they can Cross the River into the Next Life in a New World............also, not so bad, as one gets to "start over" with a clean slate..........
So, the only "Evil" is in the Hearts of those who go against the Natural Order of things, for personal gain......
