Default What do people OUTSIDE the Eastern Orthodox Church know--or think they know--about it

This is something akin to a poll. I look forward to your answers. Thanks in advance!

One Catholic is the same as another Catholic aren't they? That was truly a question meant in good spirit.

The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from the Catholic Church in 1054 A.D. over several issues including the foliage and unlearn bread.

Since that time, Orthodox do not recognize most of the councils held by the Church to be "ecumenical." Also Orthodox do not recognize the Pope, Bishop of Rome, as head of the Church on earth.

Despite the schism, Orthodox do still have apostolic succession and so their priesthood and liturgy and sacraments are valid.

If you are Orthodox (the ask er) then I would imagine you see the schism in a different light - i.e. you would probably say the Catholic Church left the true church - Orthodoxy.

We continue to pray for an end to the separation.

No one in America (that is not part of it understands it) the Protestants here can not even understand the Catholic Church much less even begin to understand the Orthodox Church. I imagine many of them think that it is similar to the Catholic Church that we "worship idols and Mary and such." People in the United States are at times ignorant and I myself know little about the Orthodox Church but I do not make groundless claims about it like many people unfortunately do about the Catholic Church.

Mmmmm. where to start.
First schism in the Christian religion....
No book of revelation....
Do you want the factoids that they share with other Christians or just differences?

The Eastern Orthodox Church is one of the three main branches of Christianity, the other two being the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants collectively.

The break between the EOC and the then Church at Rome (catholic with a small ?c?) was the first major schism in Christianity, the Reformation was the second and produce the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant originally Lutheran because he instituted the break but rapidly splintered into Calvinism, Wesleyan among others.

Both the RCC and the EOC practice dual magisterial system thought they differ and Protestant?s follow the five so la?s. As with any separations there are differences in Bibliology, Trinitarianism, Soteriology, Ecclesiology and Eschatology. Far too much to indulge in via this format.
