Default catholics and eastern orthodoxy?

what is the source of the holy spirit?

and is there any way we can settle our differences?
I myself am catholic, but hold a great deal of respect for the orthodox

can I still take you up on the coffee?

It took me a while to figure out what you meant... Lil... Not sure how we can "settle our differences." Everyone agreed for hundreds of years that it was "Proceeds from the Father." The Roman Catholic Church decided to add "and the Son." You *changed* what the early fathers taught us.... You can change your mind back if you want ).

You are going to try and heal the Great Schism in the R&S section?

I'm Catholic are you Orthodox?
You want to get a cup of coffee?

Edit: Of course, but there will be no great divide to look at each other over and we should just start sitting at the same table. Laura is who I think we both need to sit down and talk to for awhile; if she has the patience to talk to cousins once removed.

You mean Emanation or proceeding.
from the Father as the gospel said:
John 15:26
15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeded from the Father, he shall testify of me:

1) what is the source of the holy spirit?

That's unimportant. Seriously. Is anyone going to Hell because they believe one source over the other? Is anyone going to Heaven because they believe one source over the other? This is about authority, not about doctrine.

That being the case, there are only two possible scenarios that would result in a "settling of differences"

a) the pope is willing to accept that the Patriarchs of the Eastern Orthodox Church are his equals in *authority*, and that his superiority is only one of *honor*

OR

b) the 4 Patriarchs of the Eastern Orthodox Church accept that the pope has authority over them, at least concerning "ex cathedral" declarations.

Neither seems likely to happen in the near future.
