I believe that the chief difference is recognition of the Pope or Head of Church.

Very basically, in the East God or the Divine is not personified as in the west; God is perceived as a spirit, a force, a metaphysical principle affecting and permeating everything. They don't even use a word meaning God except Hinduism. Buddhism refers to the Self, Taoism is the Tao, Confucianism is atheistic, Shinto has spirits or Kama's that are not under one divine entity, and Hinduism refers to gods but that has another meaning than what we in the west understand. Brahma is the creator, all other gods are aspects or avatars of Brahma.

Well they pretty much split apart because the "Pope" couldn't be "equal among the five bishops" and decided that he needed to be the "ruler of them all" - in a nutshell anyways.
So recognition that the Pope is the leader in Catholicism versus Archbishops as equals all over in E.O.

I wish I could remember more...I know that E.O. are more into very ornate ceremony, decor, etc. Beautification, etc. Women also have to wear a dress or a skirt, as well as a head scarf.

Their beliefs vary very little.

Catholics managed to maintain a central leadership and control, while the eastern orthodox lost theirs many years ago. The eastern orthodox split into many different factions with different viewpoints. There are subtle differences over policies and opinions, but the main difference is over recognized leadership.

We have the Pope, Orthodox have the Patriarch of Constantinople.

We accord the former a real primacy of occlusion sovereignty, whereas the Orthodox accord the Patriarchy of being "first among equals" (or rather, an almost honorary title.)

The Catholics of the west have a much shorter liturgy (although Catholics of the East use pretty much the same liturgies as the Orthodox.)

There are differences over how each interprets the Nicene creed, although Catholics of the East say the creed the same as Orthodox do... this difference is called "the foliage."

There are some political problems between the two churches... each has accused the other of stealing the faithful: the Russians took churches away from the Catholics in the Ukraine, after the revolution in 1917. And the Orthodox partial isn't happy about some of our efforts to regain a foothold in these places where we once were....

But there really aren't many differences, as I'm sure you can gather.
