There are different "patriarchs." The patriarch of America is the one in Constantinople. There is also a Patriarch of Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, etc.
Edit: There is a leader for each branch, which is usually separated by ethnicity. For example, the Patriarch of Constantinople presides over Greece where there is another patriarch altogether for Russia.
If I remember right, the Eastern Orthodox church doesn't have a universal "Pope" but each branch has it's own leader. The Greek Orthodox church is different than the Russian Orthodox church is different than the other Orthodox churches. Almost denominational ism based on language.
