Default Why there are Catholics in the middle east? wasn't they suppose to follow the eastern

I need a historical background.

They have never been able to agree. So the church was split down the middle to start with.

"supposed" you follow what works for you. besides my friends are Greek Orthodox and Catholic and they are from Palestine... they kind of work hand in hand in some respects

Catholics are those who are in communion with the Vatican (Rome) & recognizes the Pope's authority over the church. They are everywhere in the world... even in Communist China where the "true" Catholics are underground because they refuse to recognize the "state" appointed bishops. So why not in the Middle East?... And guess what else you can find all over the world!... Evangelical Protestantism. They were well established in Russia long before the fall of the Soviet Union... just to give an example. I only mention it because Catholics are not the only ones you'll find in unexpected places.

Frankly, it was meddling by the Roman Catholic Church in an area that historically fell to the Orthodox patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem. Armed with their belief that the pope should rule all Christians, Roman Catholics invaded the middle east both militarily and clerically, creating divisions among the Christians that were there and setting up parallel jurisdictions.
