It is called the Great Schism, and is often dated for convenience as 1054, the date that Cardinal Humbert excommunicated the Orthodox Patriarch! But the estrangement was a slow process that built for many years. It wasn't until much later that any canon (rule) was set by any Orthodox church concerning the reception of converts from the church of Rome.

It is called a "Schism".

The Catholic Church calls it "The Great Rebellion."
