Default If Jesus founded the Catholic Church (as I was informed in another q i asked) why is

After all, isn't the whole reason its called "Orthodox" because they were there first? and in fact its the Catholic Church which has departed from traditional Chritian beliefs? And I have heard of the Coptic Church (founded by St. Mark supposedly) which claims to be even more "Orthodox" than the Catholic Church. Whats up with that? Also, is the Pope mentioned in the bible? Just curious about some things. I don't know very much about these subjects and I would like to learn the truth. Because as far as I can understand, did somebody have to invent the position of Pope? Or did God say in the Bible that we need a Pope? Thanks I appreciate any answers including criticism as long as there is something for me to learn along with it. Don't just say "You clearly have no knowledge of the workings of the Catholic Church OR the Bible" and that's it. That would be stating the obvious and the reason why I am here. So if anybody is feeling helpful at all...

Jesus did not found a church, Jesus told his followers to deliver the good news on a one-on-one basis

it was Paul who started churches

and it was Constantine who made it a religion

He did not form the Catholic church. People did that about 40 years after he was dead.

all churches are altered to some extent Jesus just wants us to know him not follow man made rules. pray and seek him first and follow what he commands.

I agree with Daniel. No offense to anybody reading this, but Jesus would be pretty horrified to see what Christianity has become.

Constantine the Roman empire decided that Christanity would be a useful and converted to a Christian. Thus gaining serious control of minds and body and nutters who would kick ass if people got out of line. That's why there's a pope in Rome- who can tell everyone what is right and wrong and how to conduct their lives all over the world- great!

Jesus did NOT Found the Catholic Church! Catholicism started much earlier ,for a history see Judges 17, This group of evil men from the tribe of Dan imposed their false beliefs on the Christians in the Early years. The Catholic Church was started with money stolen by a man who stole it from his mother and God! He returned the money ans started this idolatry as is Recorded in Judges 17!

I don't think that Catholic Church or any church for that matter was formed by Jesus. All Jesus is interested in is our body the temple that He/God and the Holy Spirit formed. That is the temple He spoke about when He said He can build a church in three days.

JC couldn't have manage to find himself an occupation beyond preaching
and being homeless, I honestly doubt the guy could run a church.

The structural organization we call the Church did not exist at the time of Jesus' death. It came into existence later as a result of his followers meeting & living together & being unable to worship God within the confines of Judaism.
When the Roman empire disintegrated, there were two strong church bases, one in Rome, another in Constantinople (now Istanbul). They split into Catholic (hence the term Roman Catholic) and Orthodox (Eastern), though the names used to differentiate the two expressions & geographical areas of the two organizational branches of what was essentially the same church were not applied until centuries after by which time clear distinctions & rivalries had emerged.

He did not! do you think a Man in perfect righteousness would accept even one account of Peadophilia let alone countless tens of thousands? What is the pope! how could he be Gods Representative on Earth Jesus Christ is Just that alone Alone!, the Vatican is the most evil office on Earth and is full to the brim of Mans Blood wallowing in funds and lands that could heal the world it has a ring of Churches at its feet that hold blinded those who would see her real face if she had not deceived them constantly.

Jesus started a movement. 325 years later Constantine turned it into a religion for political reasons. The next Emperor did his best to destroy it. Justinian recreated the catholic religion in 525. Islam started in 625, or there abouts, and the Roman catholic religion started in 872 when bishop Thomas declared himself pope and started a new religion.

Jesus founded the Church called now Eastern Orthodox Church. Coptic Church (and other Oriental Orthodox Churches) separated from the Church in 451, Roman Catholic Church separated in 1054.

The Orthodox and Catholic Churches were one and the same until they separated from one another in 1054 mainly over the role of the Pope.

There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.htm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.htm) and the Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.

Another difference is the Filioque clause in the Nicene Creed, the original which the Orthodox follow is
"And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father."
And the Catholic revision is:
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filioque

Pope John Paul II said of the Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common."

For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_02051995_orientale-lumen_en.html

With love in Christ.

<<If Jesus founded the Catholic Church (as I was informed in another q i asked) why is there an Eastern Orthodox?>>

The Eastern Orthodox Church was once part of the Catholic Church. It split from the Catholic Church in the Schism of 1054 and became the Orthodox Church.

<<After all, isn't the whole reason its called "Orthodox" because they were there first?>>

No, that's not what "orthodox" means.
ORTHODOXY - Right belief as compared with heterodoxy or heresy. The term is used in the East to identify those churches (not united with Rome) which accepted the ancient councils, notably Ephesus and Chalcedon, and which call themselves "the holy, orthodox, catholic, Eastern Church." In the West the word is sometimes used to describe a justifiable concern for sound doctrine in the Catholic faith. (Etym. Greek Otho's, right + docks, opinion: Orthodox, having the right opinion.)

<<and in fact its the Catholic Church which has departed from traditional Chritian beliefs?>>

No, the Catholic Church has retained the Truth.

<<And I have heard of the Coptic Church (founded by St. Mark supposedly) which claims to be even more "Orthodox" than the Catholic Church. Whats up with that?>>

Are you not aware that the "Coptic Church" IS the Catholic Church?

COPTIC RITE - Three forms of the Eucharistic ritual, that of St. Cyril, St. Gregory Nazianzus, and St. Basil, used by the Coptic churches united with the Holy See. The Anaphora, or canon, of St. Cyril, also called St. Mark's, together with parts common to all, duplicates the Greek St. Mark's. When translations were made into Coptic, some Greek forms were retained but were written in Coptic characters. St. Basil's ritual is used on Sundays, weekdays, and for requiems. St. Gregory's is used on certain feast days, St. Cyril's during Lent and on Christmas Eve.

<<Also, is the Pope mentioned in the bible?>>

YES!

<<Just curious about some things. I don't know very much about these subjects and I would like to learn the truth.>>

You come across as pretty arrogant for someone who doesn't know very much about these subjects.

<<Because as far as I can understand, did somebody have to invent the position of Pope? Or did God say in the Bible that we need a Pope? Thanks I appreciate any answers including criticism as long as there is something for me to learn along with it. Don't just say "You clearly have no knowledge of the workings of the Catholic Church OR the Bible" and that's it. That would be stating the obvious and the reason why I am here. So if anybody is feeling helpful at all...>>

Again, you come across as arrogant in your own beliefs while, very curiously, claiming not to know much about these things. . .
