I want to know why there is a schism between the Eastern orthodox church and the Roma
I've been very curious about this. Being raised an Amercan Catholic we were never told of the real differences. Please help me clarify this. Serious answers please. Let's be sane about this.
Apparently the western church had by that time,(when the Greeks Orthodox split from the Vatican rule) translated its bible into Latin, and the Greek Orthodox stated that it was originally written in Greek (which is the truth) and that the Catholics of the Vatican had it all wrong. So they split.
Well there were many reasons. Theological, cultural, leadership, wars, spiritual, natural, and so forth. The Churches were tied with the states so there were many political things. The leaders wanted authority and disagreed who should have it like the Pope. I cant remember exactly what doctrines though maybe the images. Here is a Viki article:

p.s. They were both wrong because neither of them have authority over the true spiritual biblical Church. And much corruption came in through money, immorality, external hypocritical ritualistic dead religion, and government bondage. I would stick with the Bible and the reformation had a lot of good in it like the restoration of the true grace in the Gospel.
The Orthodox and Catholic Churches were one and the same until they separated from one another in 1054 mainly over the role of the Pope.
There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.htm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.htm) and the Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.
Pope John Paul II said of the Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common."
For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_02051995_orientale-lumen_en.html
Don't feel put off that, being raised as an American Catholic (or any other kind of Catholic) you weren't taught much about other traditions. It makes more sense to learn about your faith in terms of what we believe rather than what we don't. At the same time, it is good for you to learn about our common heritage and traditions.
The original source of the schism was both political and theological.
Politically, the Western Church (later Roman Catholic) wanted final earthly authority to be vested in the Pope in Rome. The Eastern Chuch (later Orthodox) wanted power to be vested in Constantinople - some scholars say it was more spread between Alexandria and Constantinople. Both churches agreed on the idea of a monarchic style of governance (remember, both churches developed in the age of monarchies - democracy was a failed Greek experiment in their eyes), but disagreed on who should hold the power.
Theologically, there are distinctions in terms of treatment of the sacraments (though both churches agree there should be seven) and on the nature of the substance of God. In all truth, very minor points from the perspective of practitioners.
