It broke away from Rome in 1054 AD.

It has not ended, it is still an on going religion.

The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches separated in 1054 and tried to unite at the Council of Florence (15Th cent)

The Eastern Orthodox Church is alive and well, thank you. It has about 200 million adherents. I was one of them in church this morning.
