Default Did the Eastern Orthodox Church experience the same corruption as the Catholic Church

like the sale of indulgences, corrupt Popes, Inquisition, etc.

Well, the Eastern Orthodox Church doesn't have Popes, but they do have Pontiffs.. I don't believe they sold indulgences.. and they were usually the ones being persecuted, not the ones persecuting.

It had a fairly different set of problems, historically.

First off, the Emperors ended up personally selecting the Patriarchs of Constantinople. So that politicized the whole establishment. This was the main problem. Corruption, not so much.

Then the Iconoclasm happened. This was a bizarre time in which those who venerated icons (images of the Mary, saints, etc) were pitched against the violent people who hated them. All kinds of exiles and mutilations. There was at this time a closely related, sporadic persecution of monasticism.

Don't forget all the various heresies and apostasies. But that history intermingles with the Catholic Church's.

The Orthodox Church is the Church of the Martyrs.
The Orthodox Church is the Original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ and His Apostles, it's Doctrine has remained in corrupt and unchanged for almost 2,000 years, while suffering many persecutions, from Muslims, Crusaders, Nazis, Communists, etc.

Orthodox history does not include the chief bishops also being head of state, as occurred with the Pope of Rome. Much evil came from that arrangement that did not occur among the Orthodox.

Orthodoxy has had no sale of indulgences, no Inquisition, no Reformation or counter-Reformation.

It has had its problems with the patriarchs being subject to the Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire ("Byzantine Empire"), and later the Sultan under the Ottoman Empire, with the office sometimes going to the highest bidder. But salvation itself was never offered for sale.
