B The orthodox church does not have a pope but bishops who are appointed by the laying on of hands.

Both churches believe in Christ

Celibacy was simply a rule made by Pope Gregory. It had little to do with Christianity but more to do with not wanting priests to accumulate wealth and pass it on to wives and children.

All of these questions are well documented in any tutorial of "Catholicism" . Are you asking as a student and at what level?

B.

The Orthodox and Catholic Churches were one and the same until they separated from one another in 1054 mainly over the role of the Pope.

There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.htm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.htm) and the Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.

Pope John Paul II said of the Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common."

For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_02051995_orientale-lumen_en.html

With love in Christ.

B is the answer. But the disagreement was much more fundamental. It had to do with trying to explain the Trinity, which seems like a silly thing to disagree on because of course it is a mystery, and who can explain a mystery anyway? Nonetheless, the Orthodox took the position that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father alone. And Catholics take the position that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Love between the Father and the Son. That whole issue is called the "foliage" which is Latin for "and the Son".

I am Catholic and I believe the Catholic position cause it makes a lot more sense in describing the Trinity and of course the Catholic Church has taught it infallibly, which means it is true. I just cannot see why for over 1000 years, we have been separated by this issue.
