Why does the Eastern Orthodox Church accuse the Roman Church of worshiping Mary?
I thought that they venerated Mary just as much, and apparently they venerate her, but they feel that the Roman Catholic Church treats her like a goddess. And even though I'm converting to Catholicism, I must agree begrudgingly.
Does the Roman Catholic Church really think of Mary as a Co-redeemer? If so, I may need the Orthodox Church instead..
Don't know too much about the Eastern church- they do reverence Mary. Maybe not to the degree the RCC does.
RCC does use the term "veneration", but its just a veneer over idol worship.
The Catholic Church in no way teaches that Mary was comparable to Jesus. She was the mother of God and therefore had a great honor. She is human just like all of us. Catholics do not pray to Mary, they ask Mary to pass their prayers and intercessions on to God (similar to a patron saint). Mary is important because without her, Jesus might not have been born.
Co-radiometric is an oft-misunderstood term. It does not mean we believe Mary redeems sins or forgives them the way Jesus does, because that would be impossible. Her cooperation in God's plan of redemption is what gives her this title.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church has a few paragraphs on this you might find interesting. 967-970 in particular.
And is it really that often that the Eastern rite churches say that? I've never experienced this myself. I've often admired them for their beautiful icons of Mary and their special way of honoring her.
I was a catholic... one who almost became a priest. And let me tell you that the catholics do worship Mary.
I'll prove it:
I kiss one woman, hold her hand and say that I love her, make love to her, share my emotions, share my belongings, gift her often and then call her my WIFE.

Are the titles that I call them differently making any sense when my actions towards both are the same?
Catholics follow the same rituals for God and Mary. Mass, rosaries, candles, garlands, novenas, processions, ad orations, etc... the list is huge. Then how can they say that they worship just God and respect Mary? Same actions but different words? Huh
If I were you (I once was) I would back off the Catholic and the Orthodox church and find a way to serve God as the Bible purely tells me to. No rituals, no obligations, just the way God wanted it when He lovingly created man, just the way Jesus fulfilled and preached to us.
No one misunderstands the Catholic faith more than themselves. It is a pagan religion with the crafty use of God's name. They have a book Catechism with convincing language and follow that more diligently than the Word of God. You know what Jesus has to say about that in Matt 15:9.
Check the real 10 commandments in Ex 20 and Deut 5 and tally it with the Catholic Catechism ones. You'll know their reason for so much belief in idols and images.
Check the real creed and the Catholic creed.
Check the pagan deity 'Queen of Heaven' mentioned in Jer 44:16-19 and how the Catholics have defamed Mary by calling her that.
And to think about their theory of Mother of God... phew. Gen 1:1 would've been "In the beginning the Mother of God created God" and John 1:1 would've been "In the beginning was the Mother; Mother was with God and then came the Son". Thank Jesus for clearing who our real Mother and Brothers are in Matt 12:50.
Most catholics don't even know that Mary had other children than Jesus (Matt 13:55-56 & Mk 6:3). Talk of perpetual virginity. Mary was a saint and we have to learn from her life as we should from all the saints life. Was it less difficult for the others to say 'Yes' to God in those trying times? Yet they gave their lives. What are we doing now?
It was Catholics who called Mary Magdalene a pros while the Bible does not say it at all and gives a different account of how she was saved.
Where is the account of Veronica wiping the face of Jesus written in the Bible? Nowhere.
Jesus asks us to call no one except our biological (dad) and Spiritual (God) father as 'our father' (Matt 23:9) yet Catholic priests are to be called Holy Fathers.
The catholic priests with their attire and behavior match the Pharisees mentioned in Jesus' speech in Luke 11.
God is our Father who gives even motherly love (check how He calls Himself a Hen who gathers her chickens in Matt 23:37). He lovingly gave us life in the same way that a woman gives birth. Yet He says that even if our mother forgets us He will not - Isa 49:15.
Jesus is the only mediator (1 Timothy 2:5) and intercession is done by the living and not the dead (Remember how Moses, Elijah and all the OT prophets interceded and how the apostles in NT ask us to pray for each other).
Catholics assume that Mary went to Heaven alive and you know what ASSUME means. The women in Revelations and Antichrist depict races of people and not just one. Jesus is alive now and is interceding for us as the Lamb in the midst of the Throne (Rev 7:17) and through Him we are saved. Saints and Mary have done their part. They have their glorious reward for being the marvelous people they were. Now it's our turn. We cannot reach Heaven by their deeds and prayers now that they are dead. Remember the parable of Lazarus and the wealthy man in Lk 16:19-31
The Israelites got it wrong when our Father God preached through the prophets in the OT.
The Jews got it wrong when the Son Jesus preached in the NT.
The world is now getting it wrong while the Holy Spirit is preaching through His people in these end times. True blasphemy which will never be forgiven Matt 12:31-32.
ONLY EX Catholics who misunderstood the faith and some Protestants believe that Mary is Worshipped By Catholics, Never have I hear our Orthodox brethren make this Claim!.
As a Catholic and any other Catholic can tell you on here we Honor Mary out of respect like you would your own mother, we ask Mary and the Saints to pray for us like you would a family member or Friend 'Intercession' we Pray DIRECTLY to God and to make it clear once again WE WORSHIP ONLY GOD!!!
Catholics do NOT worship Mary. Her role as co-Demetris is given to her because Jesus came to the world through her. Her role in redemption is inferior to Jesus'.
I'm Eastern Orthodox convert and there is the general thought by many of us the Catholics go ab it to fat with the veneration of Mary- for example the concept of original sin- the Catholics teach Mary is with out original sin- however the Orthodox church and early Church fathers say the only way this could be possible would be if Mary was a separate creation- thus making Christ with out a human a nature or if Mary were God.
Some thing the Catholics deny, next they do use the term co-Redeemer which is a term we Orthodox just don't use. The
western Christians are constantly pushing each other farther from the early church- After the dark ages the Catholics started scholasticism which were shaken during the Renaissance and along with protesting corruption in the Catholic Church resulted in the the reformation. Which resulted in all doctrine being questioned and attacked
and the catholics countered by writing more definitions.
Remeeber the Catholics even changed the creed.
