It's the Religion of The Light And Sound of God, and it's currently headed by Sri Harold Klemp, also known as the Mahanta. They place a lot of importance on chanting (or more accurately, singing) the word "HU", which they regard as love song to God. They also believe in something called "Soul Travel". I have friends who are Eckists, and there are ECK study groups around here.

Some basic beliefs of Eckankar (from their own literature):

"Soul is eternal and is the individuals true identity.

Soul exists because God loves It.

Soul is on a journey of Self- and God-Realization.

Spiritual involvement can be accelerated through conscious contact with the ECK, Divine Spirit.

This contact can be made via the Spiritual Exercises of ECK and the guidance of the Living ECK Master.

The Mahanta, the Living ECK Master is the spiritual leader of Eckankar.

Spiritual experience and liberation in this lifetime are available to all.

You can actively explore the spiritual worlds through Soul Travel, dreams, and other spiritual techniques."

Holy cow. Sounds like the Out of Body exploration place that was across the street from my parents' seminary,

Whatever you do DO NOT get involved. Not for the usually expected not christian reasons, but the the prime personal safety and health reason.

Many people in that place who went searching for OBEs never came back. They lapsed into comas and died. The soul and the body were NOT meant to be separated.

soul and body are never separate except upon death of the body. Eyck has many good facets. I have travel led to the spirit worlds. it is different. have travel led mystically and shamanistic ally.
what I would never consider doing is put myself blindly in the hands of anyone on this plane of existence. I will be guided with advice but no one will tell me what to believe or not to believe.

Yea its a new religion that started in 1965. It's name comes from a Sikh word "Ik ON jar" or something similar which means "one god".

I think there is an Eyck temple, where you can have a nice walk and learn about Eckankar.

Their current leader is an Eck master, and supposedly there have been many in the past. The Eck master's writings are considered authoritative.
