Does anyone on R/S believe eckankar?

I just wondered.

I've only met one in my life and she claimed to be god's coworker. She actually "demonstrated" for me her ability to travel through "other planes". Although from my perspective it looked more like she closed her eyes and periodically peeked to see if I was still watching.

I believe that it's a moderately successful cult, the practice of which had no particularly insidious design beyond making money for the originator. In other words, it's harmless. For a cult.

Yes, to a point. There is a lot of truth to what they teach, but it has been turned into a religion.

Eckankar is a type of Surat shad yoga. There are a lot of different groups that teach Surat shad yoga, sound current meditation. Nearly all of them have taken on the trappings of religion to a greater or lesser degree.

The only organization I have ever found that teaches this path without turning it into a religion is The Eureka Society, which teaches Surat shad yoga as a science and calls it audiometer.

I liked it better when DG was there. Didn't like the

You can accomplish the same things without
saddling yourself to a group,guru,or master if that's
what you want. Use your brain to think your own thoughts..not somebody Else's.

I've heard about it, but no, I don't believe any of it. Also called "soul travel ling". I have literature on it, but it is just completely impossible to comprehend all the ideas. It is probably the most confusing religion that is out there in this whole marketplace of religions.

As a symbol it uses a funnel-shaped series of ascending ovals representing 11 astral planes or "God Worlds of ECK"; a series of 5 stick-shaped human figures ascending (soul travel ling) horizontally through the the "astral planes" toward God. This is called the "path of Eckankar".

I believe that we can never save ourselves and reach God on our own, but only God can reach "down" to us. He did that already, through Jesus Christ. Therefore, Jesus is now the mediator between God and me. If you follow Jesus, God is not a distant being that you must reach through impossible human techniques.
