Default What influences of Gnosticism can be found in early Christian thought or even the New

Gnosticism, a religious and philosophical system of antiquity, had a parallel existence along side early Christianity from the first to fourth centuries of the common era. In what ways did Gnosticism and Early Christianity interact and effect one another? What ideas did they share? What ideas did they borrow from one another? In what ways is Early Christianity a result from this shared interaction? In what ways did Early Christianity except various Gnostic premises? In what ways did it reject them? Is there any evidence of the interaction of Gnostic thought and Early Christianity within the New Testament itself?

Gnosticism was fought against by the Apostles, a prime example being the writings of John. Christ clearly taught about Himself, but Gnosticism insisted that there was a "secret knowledge" revealed only to "initiates", along with fables of hierarchies of spirits, that Jesus was not physical in some teachings, and in others that He was not really Divine.
