Default What are your thoughts on Gnosticism?

I am Gnostic Christian, a modern one. I was baptized a few weeks ago as Gnostic. I was raised Catholic and have found a deeper appreciation for Christ and Chrstiandom when I started attending the Gnostic church. I know Fundamentalists and Evangelics think we're going to hell. What else do you think? Do you think we follow the Da Vinci Code? (CZ we laugh about how awful that was at church) Or do you simply know nothing of us? And I will answer any questions via yahoo answers email if you have any.

Your 'special knowledge' is patently false.
Just so you know.
The Gnostic Gospels are forgeries, and blatantly so.
You may as well believe the Da Vinci Code.

This is my favorite verse from the Gospel of Philip:

Light and Darkness, life and death, right and left, are brothers of one another. They are inseparable. Because of this neither are the good good, nor evil evil, nor is life life, nor death death. For this reason each one will dissolve into its earliest origin. But those who are exalted above the world are indissoluble, eternal.

I have tremendous respect for Gnostic Christians, as I see them as very bravely going beyond the established or existing Christian dogma. With certain "flavors" of Christianity being more dominant (and vocal), I wouldn't think it would be easy to be a Gnostic.

Gnosticism is a lie and those "gospels" portray God and Jesus in a way complete contradictory to the true Bible.

Gnostic Gospels
The gnostic gospels were named after the Greek word nosies which means "knowledge" and is often used in Greek philosophy in a manner more consistent with the English "enlightenment". Gnostic philosophy and religious movements began in Prue-Christian times. During this time, ideas from Greek Gnosticism intermingled with Early Christianity. The name "Christian Gnostic's" came to represent a segment of the Early Christian community who believed that salvation lay not in merely worship ping Christ, but in psychic or pneumatic souls learning to free themselves from the material world via the revelation.[4] According
( From WIkipedia0

Gnostics I have read the Gnostic Gospel of Judas and Mary.

Catholic is KATHOLIKOS ( from The Greek meaning Universal

You mean the Roman Catholic Church which they took from us and claim to be the Universal Church ( which splintered)

We are Katholik( Universal ) for ALl
Greek ORthodox Katholic ( unviersal ) for all of the World
FIrst ( from the Septuagint Bible in GREEK

The Gnostics are very Old.
Greek I??????, spirit
The highest order of humans as opposed to hylics. "spiritual," fully initiated. immaterial, souls. The Pneumatic saw himself as escaping the doom of the material world via the secret knowledge
( WIki)

If they are early Chrisitans , There is nothing wrong with that

You are not going to Hell
Hell is the Grave.

You Return to Dust
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.

We die for our own sins and return to Dust
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.

THE DEAD KNOW NOTHING
"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." "There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10. "The dead praise not the Lord." Psalm 115:17.
UNTIL JUDGMENT DAY.
"So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more." Job 14:12. "The day of the Lord will come ... in the which the heavens shall pass away."
2 Peter 3:10

THUS NO BURNING HELL

Re Cuilt .. Gnostics. I DONT THINK SO.. IF THEY ARE FROM THE BIBLE AND KNOWN AS BIBLICAL WRITINGS THEY ARE NO CULT.

Mosts Cults are are the Ones who PREACH TORMENT FOREVER FOR YOUR SOUL.. AND A LOT OF BALONEY

I am Greek Orthodox and we are Very Strict but, We preach the TRUTH OF GOD

NO DAMNATION FOREVER.

As Jesus said .. LOVE ALL AS I HAVE LOVED YOU, THE GREATEST OF THESE LOVE

Not Burning Hell

I Cant advise you re Gnosticism but If they USE THE OLDEN IBIBLICAL DATA .. and Talk about Freedom of the Soul at Death and God.. AND GOD AND LOVE AND TRUTH,

THEN THEY ARE OF GOD/

From a Greek Orthodox ( Katholik ) Chrsitian of the Greek First Bible.

Gnostic Christianity is a wonderful, beautiful, spiritual and intellectual way of life. Ignore the people who are telling you that it contradicts the bible, because they are ignoramuses who have not done their "required reading." The Gnostic gospels are an extension of the bible (in my opinion). They were written later (300-400 years after Christ's passing), its true, but they had been passed on orally long before that. These gospels come from the very earliest Christian traditions, and I believe they contain a certain purity because they have been left untainted by the Council of Nicea (who disregarded them as not a part of the bible). The four Books of the new testament have been edited from their original context, and we do not know what the exact original copies contained (unless someone has the documents and they have not been made easily accessible to the public.) But also, realize that even those Gospels are not the end of writings about Christs teachings and his life. There are 11 (by my count) books written in Middle Eastern languages that recount Christ's life in India, more of his teachings, and more details about his life. I recommend WNW.tombofjesus.com to further your studies (but just to get you started, there you will find more resources)
