"Christian Gnosticism is the belief that one must have a "nosies" (from Greek "Gnosko," to know) or inner knowledge which is mystical knowledge obtained only after one has been properly initiated."

Gnosticism is the belief that one has special knowledge of god. in this case, of Jesus. The Gospel of Judas is a gnostic text. There are many others. The early church stamped most GnosticismICCovements out.

"Christian Gnosticism is the belief that one must have a "nosies" (from Greek "Gnosko," to know) or inner knowledge which is mystical knowledge obtained only after one has been properly initiated. Only a few can possess this mystical knowledge, limiting the number of those "in the know". It is a heresy that Paul battled against in some of his letters to the churches and was soundly condemned as a heresy in the first century church (40-100 A.D.). It is resurrected today as the forerunner to the New Age Religion where virtually anything goes and "religion" takes on many forms, especially the mystic Eastern religions that are so prevalent today.

Gnosticism today seems to provide a lot of the form and color for the New Age portrait of Jesus where Jesus is seen as the illumined Illuminator: one who serves as a cosmic catalyst for others' awakening. As such it is as false and heretical as the Gnosticism of the first century and needs to be roundly condemned for the heresy that it is."

It is a name composed of two irreconcilable terms. It can not exist.

Ireneus wrote an excellent examination of Gnostic thought in the 200's. His demonstration that the two are not compatible is authoritative. I recommend it [although it can be a tough read].

Gnosis does not mean intellectual knowledge or logical understanding, but is seeing God, mysterious wisdom. The perfect Gnostic is the man who is free from the world and master of himself. He is emancipated from the dead letter and outward symbols of religion, having realized the Truth. Christian Gnosticism was a deliberate effort to fuse Greek and Hindu elements.

Many of the chief features of the Gnosticism are those common to the Upanishads and the mystic traditions of Greece. In the technical sense, the term Gnostic first appears in I Timothy VI. 20.
