Default Those of you interested in Christian Gnosticism, where did your interest originate?

In a research paper I recently did on religion on line, I predicted that documentaries like The Gospel of Judas and the upcoming release of the movie The DaVinci Code could lead to a renewed interest in Christian Gnosticism. For those of you who have become interested in Christian Gnosticism, what originally sparked your interest? Was it a book, documentary, or something you read on line? How are you pursuing this interest? Are you talking with others on line, going to meetings, etc.?

Hello I have found myself researching on the web. There are some pretty interesting links. I can remember looking into it back in the 70's. I would be interested in chatting with others. From what I have been able to find out.....I find it easy to accept and it has a feeling of great truth. I will continue to seek.

Hello Demon Deacon, good to here a question from you!

OK, Growing up as a Buddhist my Family often criticized Christianity for being Philosophically inadequate. But I always had an interest despite my communities criticisms.

My grand mother was Catholic and I loved to talk theology with her. It was that time that I started to search for a continuity between my Buddhism and her Catholicism. This was rejected by my parents and grandmother (grandparents), but I continued to hybridize the two on my on. The question would emerge, "was Jesus an enlightened man"?

Latter the man who introduced Buddhism to my mother shared a book with me, Holy Blood Holy Grail. I didn't read it but he explained the crux of it to me. I didn't know what to think.

And then two years ago picked up Elaine Pagels book, Beyond Belief. Read it cover to cover. And I said to myself, "finally somebodies on the right track."

After that I started exploring a lot on the Internet; how far west did Buddhism expand (before it was crushed by Islam), when and what is Judaism, I mean what is it really, and how could the teachings of the profit be so misinterpreted, etc.

And then a few months ago I read the Da Vinci Code. That was fun, a few factual interests but most just fun stuff.

Hi and nice to meet - first thanks for your referral I will definitely check it out at my local bookstore.
To answer your question, I always heard about Gnostic beliefs since very young. I grew up a Catholic, but the older I became the less I wanted to belong to a religion that did not feel right in my heart.
I personally do not think we should belong to organized religious groups and your belief in something Divine comes from within not from what someone else is telling you is the right belief etc.
To make it short, I love to read - and the more I read the more I want to know - and reading in the Internet about Gnostic beliefs, programs I see on T.V. etc. it revived that long ago interest I once had, hence my quest for more information on this subject.
I does seem right to me, this quest of mine...

Believe it or not (and despite my silly questions), I've had an interest in comparative religion for about twenty years. I've owned a copy of The Nag Hammadi Library since '91 or '92.
Hope you're right in your prediction, the lesser emphasis on the supernatural aspect of Jesus found in many of the Gnostic tracts, would be a welcome influence on modern Christianity. I'd love to see a greater emphasis on the message, rather than the messenger.

Reading the book, mother god by Sylvia Browne, inspired me alto. My beliefs were as the same as this tradition so therefore, it made me discover who I was today... A gnostic-christian.
