The fact that you have asked a question about it infers that it is an issue that still comes up once in a while, and is therefore still an issue today.

Where is Gnosticism mentioned in the Bible?

Edit:
This is a serious question. I thought that the Gnostics were post-biblical and cannot think of any reference to them in the Bible.

Edit:
Since nobody will answer me I have asked a question (Where is Gnosticism mentioned in the Bible? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081223070035AAiteHj)

Absolutely...it has just manifest itself in different forms such as humanism, New Age, Nature worship, universalism, etc. Basically anything in the mind of man that can be worshiped. Man never ceases to feel that he is god. We were made in God's image and ever since we have tried to return the favor. God Bless

Yes. The lost gospels are considered to be gnostic and were deemed as heresy by the early church fathers. The church today still view them that way, but I personally do not.

In my personal opinion, a man many centuries ago decided what is to be accepted as scripture. anything that came from the Gnostics was deemed not worthy. They show Jesus in a different light.

Gnosis means knowledge and I think we all should aspire for knowledge!

Peace and God bless!

Are some of the Protestant sects a form of modern Gnosticism? I would argue that many are.

Hi, the word Gnosis is from a Greek root and it means knowledge. As you may already know. So basically any time that word appears in the scriptures it can be translated to Gnosis. There is a passage in 1st Corinthians Chapter 2 Vers. 6 and 7. The occult wisdom is prior to anything since it comes from god and is god. This is in essence the true Gnosis. Also the opposite of knowledge is ignorance. Ignorance equates to darkness and Satan. Thank you for your time.
