I've chosen to convert to Christian Gnosticism because it respects women more?
As you may recall, several years ago, The Da Vinci Code became a hugely-successful book because it explored several theories involving conspiracies within the Church, including the possibility that Jesus somehow survived the crucifixion and escaped with Mary Magdalene. The book was highly praised by several feminist groups because it explored the theory that Christian Gnosticism was suppressed by the Catholic Church because it gave equal respect to men and women.
In light of this, I've decided to convert to Christian Gnosticism, as I can no longer tolerate the oppression of women. I've been reading up on Gnosticism for a while now, and many of its teachings really make a lot of sense to me. For instance, consider the following passage from The Gospel of Thomas, a Gnostic text that was suppressed and excluded from The Bible by male, patriarchal Church leaders:
'Simon Peter said to them, ?Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life.? Jesus said, ?I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven.?' (Thomas 114)
You caught me, Cricket. Can you believe how many people took this question seriously just because they didn't feel like reading three little paragraphs? People need to learn to read the entire question.
