What Do You Think About The Philosophy Of Gnosticism?
Around the time of Christ there was a philosophy movement running around called Gnosticism which claimed that all the material world was "evil" and an illusion. They said only that which was spiritual was good and true.
Sine Christ was of God, the Gnostics believed that He therefore appeared to come in the flesh, like a spirit.
According to their ways, one was saved by a secret "knowledge" (nosies = to know) of God. It went in either of two ways:
1. You had to abide by certain rules to avoid following "the flesh"
2. You did not have to worry about what you did in your earthly bodies, because, after all, the flesh was an illusion. Tthey felt they could commit acts of immorality because the flesh had no earthly consequence.
The Apostle Paul condemned this philosophy in his epistles. Not everyone could achieve salvation, it was reserved for those who experienced the "spiritual awakenings" through their knowledge.
