Default What Do You Know About Christian Gnosticism?

What are the seminal texts, how do you go about getting involved, and where are Churches that abide by this type of belief system.

See, I believe in God - though not the type of moral being presented in the Bible - but still believe that the Holy Spirit worked through fallible human beings and produced the Bible which can give us insights into the nature of God and our relationship to God.

How do I go about learning more? How do I go about getting involved in folks who share these same feelings?

Check out books by Elaine Pagels for the history and ideas of Christian Gnosticism.

Many of the Gnostic texts survive in the Nag Hammadi library, which you can now finally easily find translations of.

The Gnostics left their library behind sealed in a Jar along the Nile river. You can buy it at a bookstore.. it's called the Nag Hammadi Library. And it is well worth reading.

Gnostics also claimed to have "secret teachings," which may sound a bit mysterious, but even in the 4 Gospels, Jesus was talking about these secrets (which was common in the teacher-disciple relationship).

And this will explain the kind of secrets http://gospelenigma.com which were passed along, since this kind of thing goes on even these days. You can email me if you want more info.

there are several Gnostic groups on Facebook and probably Myspace, it might be worth while contacting those groups, I know some of their members are involved with Gnostic churches.

I found Taoism and meditation a good way of understanding the Gnostic Gospels, I think even Elaine Pagels commented on the Gospel of Thomas as being similar to Buddhism.

I'm with you on this. I recently went on line and read several of the "lost" books or Gnostic texts. It is easy to do. I see others have answered your question as to where you can meet like-minded individuals. May peace and love be with you.
