Religion--anybody can be a Hindu, regardless of their ethnicity. However, most are (Asian) Indians.

Religion, there ethnicity tends to be Indian but since the colonization of the British the Muslims and Hindus of India were separated based upon religion so they often will use their religion to state their ethnicity.

Hinduism is practiced both religiously and philosophically, but it is not a hereditary ethnicity.

Depends on how it is used. Hindu is usually in reference to someone who practices the religion of Hinduism. However, occasionally the term is used to refer to people from India. In the United States this is sometimes common since Native Americans (indigenous tribes) are often refer ed to as Indians so many from India used the term Hindu...until that got confusing since not everyone from India practices Hinduism. The term that is most commonly used now when the word Indian is used is American Indians for Native Americans and Asian Indians to refer to those from India. Most "American Indians" or "Native Americans", though, refer to themselves by the name of their tribe (they do the same with their religion...if you ask "what religion are you" they will give the name of their tribe most of the time...which means they practice their native tribal religion). My beloved is Shawnee (both tribe and religion). I am Hindu, but only in the religious sense.
