Default Which religion (other than Hinduism and its sister religions) assigns caste names by

add
sister religions..if any?
But Hinduism assigns jobs/professions by birth besides assigning bad and in dignified caste titles by birth. Other religions assigns only good titles by births if any.

I can only think of Hinduism and Jainism. Caste system is pretty unique to the Indian subcontinent.

Only Hindus that do not understand their own tradition assign caste by birth. Both the Rg Veda and Mahabharata say caste is merit based. this same system is also found in Plato's dialogs.

Manu Smruthi talks of washroom and Bhagavat Gita. Varna and caste are two different entities. Caste is basically an extension of a family referring to different branches of families, emanating from the same parenthood, originally. The Hindu society, peculiarly has been accommodating different groups of people to live in their midst, but they intermingled socially. It has resulted in various groups living in the same geographical area. Thus several rules of social conduct to govern the inter-social relations. As and when these rules were transgressed, there had been tension. By and large, they lived in peace, respecting each others domain and sphere of influence.

It is in the era of penmanship, that is now prevailing that there is constant struggle and bloodshed. The nature of society has changed. The so called backward communities seek to go up in the ladder and enhance their status in the society. A kind of churning is now taking place in the society. Unless all the people freely have marital relations and intermingle with other castes, caste will remain.

Besides Hindu society, caste differentiation is prevalent even among Jains, Buddhists. Even among the Christian converts and the Muslims, caste is practiced, because of the influence of the Hindu society.

Hinduism (if you mean the Vedic Indian Dharma) does not assign caste names by birth. Assigning trade-names, village-names, deity-names and Kyla-names etc is traditional in Indian sub-continent. But it has nothing to do with the religion of the Hindus. Many Hindus flaunt their caste-names, many do not. You need not have a caste name to become a Hindu. My son does not have a caste-name. Vedic sages like Yagnavalkya, Upaloshala, Ajatashatru.... what was their caste names ? When little Satyakama's teacher asked him his full name, he replied :- Satyakama Javala (Javala was the name of his mother, who was a prostitute).

All religions start with the highest ideals of All Are Equal & Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. But with passage of time that high ideal gets lost and various castes & creeds appear (Sa kaaleneha Mahataa Yoga Nastah Parantapah !)

Hinduism is the oldest religion, and so with passage of time vikrritis like caste-creed have crept into the Hindu way of life. With passage of time caste-division might also enter into such modern religions like Islam and Christianity also..... In India already caste-like formations are appearing among the followers of various denominations of Islam, Christianity and other religions.

Who knows, in future we may have castes and caste-names in all religions...... or if we collectively so strive, in no religion !!!

Don't blame a religion to be assigning a caste. Grow out of it. Hinduism is no religion and is not dictated by anybody to any one. i suppose it is society and culture and a set of stupid thoughts people want to live with. Hinduism is in fact one religion, that is open to and can be debated by anyone. it welcomes a change, a slow change that is acceptable to everyone. may be it does not believe in revolutions and killings. it rather believes in peace and prosperity. may be that is why the caste stem came up 4000 years ago. it does not say that you have to live with it even in 21st century. It places more importance on doing your duties more sincerely and impartially, giving your best at work or at home, and being an ideal human being in all roles in your life. if you want to question anything, question the greed bribery and unsocial and treatment you get moment you step out of your home in India. Hinduism does not support that but still Hindus do it. u and me and everyone. If your blame is because u are born as a Hindu you have to live with a particular caste, can i also ask all you to be a dutiful person in all Spears of your life? thank you

CASTE as such has lost its complete meaning due to the consist ant use of politicians in a wrong way and other self obsessed people who abused it to the most.

CASTE as according to the HINDU religion is "the work" and that too it will never be conferred just because one has born. its a complete misunderstanding.

IN Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna Tod to Arjuna that he created 4 castes with respect to their character and WORK but not by birth.

as far as my knowledge is concerned, no religion or no faith supports the theory of caste by birth.

All this fuss is due to the innocence of the people.

Religion shows how to attain the highest state of spirituality called SALVATION. it is the ultimate aim of any religion or faith.

TO practice this one needs to improve TOLERENCE and NON VIOLENCE.

Hinduism is OK but what are its sister religions!? When the Hinduism is not a RELIGION at all. It is perfectly on the the foot of "Dharma Pracharam" for happy living of human beings. Why because it believes that all ways for evolution and spiritual pursuits. Muslims Islam Religion we find sect, but not caste. To me the two letter answer is 'NO'. Thank you, Bharath.
