Default If someone came upto you and asked if Hinduism is monotheistic of polytheistic, what

Please help!
I'm confused as to which one Hinduism is..
I know there are many Gods but all those Gods are just manifestations of one supreme God..so how would I go about explaining this in 4 pages.

Thank you so much! <3

Polytheistic.

And no, all those "gods" in Hinduism are *not* just manifestations of one "supreme god." Some are believed to be, some aren't. You need to study Hinduism some more.

Peace.

Technically it's monotheistic, but appears to be polytheistic

In Hinduism, views are broad and range from monism, pantheism to pantheismSm alternatively called monistic theism by some scholars ? to monotheism (also see Hindu denominations). Hinduism is often misrepresented as polytheistic.

I'd say I believe that Hindus worship the same deity in various guises, but I'm really not sure.

If each "aspect" is worshiped separately and as separate beings, then that is not monotheistic. Like Christianity & the Trinity, it is polytheistic.

Both, depending on your outlook and who you talk to. Hinduism comes in many shapes and sizes.

In my understanding in Hinduism there are many gods (or demo gods) but they are all aspects of the same thing. All individual slices of the same cake. Much like the trinity in Christianity, they are just a bit more imaginative about the different aspects of god

Actually there are many different schools of thought is Hinduism. Some say it is monotheistic, some say polytheistic and some say more or less that it's both.

It depends on which part of the Hindu complex of religions you look at.

One large part of it looks on all the faces of God being just different avatars of the supreme Godhead, Brahman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahman

Hinduism also includes polytheism, animism, pantheism, atheism,....
It is a complex of different religions

I suppose it would depend on the practitioner, but in general I would say Hinduism is technically monotheistic, as the various deities are supposed to be different expressions of the one Great Brahma.

Polytheistic. they have hundreds of gods, even more than Egypt did in the days of the Pharaohs.
