Its not the paper we worship we worship the SANSKRIT WORDS CONTAINED IN BOOK LORD BRAHMA AND VISHNU ARE CREATOR OF SANSKRIT And Saraswati resides in it.
Putting on feet on DEVNAGARI SCRIPT means disrespect of BRAHMA.

Books and paper are considered to be goddess Sarasota, hence they are not touched with feet.

The Birth of Saraswati and books:

In the beginning there was chaos. ?How do I bring order to this disorder?? wondered Brahma, the creator. ?With Knowledge?, said Devi.

Heralded by a peacock, sacred BOOKS in one hand and a Verna in the other dressed in white Devi emerged from Brahma?s mouth riding a swan as the goddess Saraswati.

?Knowledge helps man find possibilities where once he saw problems.? Said the goddess. Under her tutelage Brahma acquired the ability to sense, think, comprehend and communicate. He began looking upon chaos with eyes of wisdom and thus saw the beautiful potential that lay therein.

Brahma discovered the melody of mantras in the cacophony of chaos. In his joy he named Saraswati, Vagdevi, goddess of speech and sound.

The sound of mantras filled the universe with vital energy, or Parana. Things began to take shape and the cosmos acquired a structure: the sky dotted with stars rose to form the heavens; the sea sank into the abyss below, the earth stood in between.

Gods became lords of the celestial spheres; demons ruled the nether regions, humans walked on earth. The sun rose and set, the moon waxed and waned, the tide flowed and ebbed. Seasons changed, seeds germinated, plants bloomed and withered, animals migrated and reproduced as randomness gave way to the rhythm of life.

Brahma thus became the creator of the world with Saraswati as his wisdom.

10Th Nama in Sarswathi Ashtothram is 'Om Pustaka-stayai namah'

Saraswati lives in books. Books are sacred.

Moreover the part of the body above the navel is considered pure and that below it is impure. So books can not be touched with legs.

2) Sarvam Brahmamayam:

Para Brahmam is inside of everybody as Antaryami. So kicking by leg others is prohibited.

3) Leg and God dwelling place:

Unwilling to put her feet on Himalayas, the abode of Lord Shiva, It is believed that Karaikal Ammaiyar (one among 63 Nayanmars) climbed with hands with her her head down.

It is well known that one should not keep one's feet to the direction of the image of God. This is applicable to many like the answerer only.

There was a sadhu lying in a building placing his legs in the direction towards the entrance of a temple. Someone said to him, " Do not place your leg to the direction of temple"

The reply was, " Please keep my leg to the direction where god is not there". The sadhu sees God everywhere!!

4) MORAL: 'Do not kick anything'.

That does not mean one should not walk with legs. Do not use leg other than its normal and natural functions. If accidental touching of leg(s) occurs with any book, touch the book with your right hand. Then place your right hand to your right eye and then to your left eye. Bow your head and pray Goddess Saraswati in your mind.

Vishnu took the Avatar of Vamana and pushed the Emporar Mahabali into Paatal with his leg, that is what Purana says. Even Vishnu got a kick on his chest (reveals) with Rush's leg. So, we cannot say that leg is a bad organ when compared with the hand.

Friend,

In Saraswati Devi or Sarada picture of Sringeri Perth we see in Book in ONE HAND.That BOOK represents DHARMA , a deity we call Dharma Devata too.So in general BOOK is Saraswati ( The Goddess of Knowledge Roopam).

Papers whatever they are, they are deemed to be a part of the Book and they are seen with respect.

Elders whoever they are , are aged more than us and more experienced. We may EXCEL them in any thing BUT NOT IN AGE BECAUSE they are born earlier to us, SO THEY DESERVE TO RESPECTED .

The feet are always going hither and thither and are not always perfectly clean and with SUCHI .

So these feet are supposed to be DIRTY and so we FEEL TO TOUCH THE BOOKS ,PAPERS and elders AS A disrespectful action. and so AVOID IT or DO NOT DO IT.

EVEN IF BY ACCIDENCE IT HAPPENS, WE APOLOGIZE AND TOUCH TO SHOW OUR RESPECT.
