The three primary gods of Hinduism, loosely analogous to the Moirae (Fates) in Greek mythology. Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer.

I'm sorry, I don't think my answer's going to help much, but I just had to say... I am Hindu and have been learning this since I was a kid and I still have trouble remembering it :P

This is how they are generally depicted. http://blogs.bu.edu/dmichaud/files/2010/08/brahma_vishnu_shiva.jpg
Brahma is the creator, with multiple faces, Vishnu is the maintainer and has an aura of cobras, and Shiva is the destroyer and has a cobra around his neck and is often depicted as dancing. They work together to create balance and the passage of time.
They have multiple arms to depict their extra powers to humans, their control over events and the environment.
