This brings up the question of who R?dh?r?n?? is and what R?dh?-Kr?s?n?a is. Actually R?dh?-Kr?s?n?a is the exchange of love. This is not ordinary love; Kr?s?n?a has immense potency's, of which three are principal: internal, external and marginal. In the internal potency there are three divisions: summit, holding and sanding. The holding potency is the pleasure potency. All living entities have this pleasure-seeking potency, for all beings are trying to have pleasure. This is the very nature of the living entity. At present we are trying to enjoy our pleasure potency by means of the body in this material condition. By bodily contact we are attempting to derive pleasure from material sense objects. We should not think, however, that Kr?s?n?a, who is always spiritual, tries to seek pleasure on this material plane like us. Kr?s?n?a describes the material universe as a nonpermanent place full of miseries. Why, then, would He seek pleasure in the material form? He is the Supersoul, the supreme spirit, and His pleasure is beyond the material conception.

In order to learn how Kr?s?n?a's pleasure can be obtained, we must read the Tenth Canto of ?r?mad-Bh?gavatam in which Kr?s?n?a's pleasure potency is displayed in His pastimes with R?dh?r?n?? and the damsels of Vraja. Unfortunately, unintelligent people turn at once to the sports of Kr?s?n?a in the Da?ama-skandha, the Tenth Canto. Kr?s?n?a's embracing R?dh?r?n?? or His dancing with the cowherd girls in the r?sa dance are generally not understood by ordinary men because they consider these pastimes in the light of mundane lust. They incorrectly think that Kr?s?n?a is like themselves and that He embraces the gop?s just as an ordinary man embraces a young girl. Some people thus become interested in Kr?s?n?a because they think that His religion allows indulgence in sex. This is not Kr?s?n?a-bhakti, love of Kr?s?n?a, but pr?kr?ta-sahajiy? ? materialistic lust.

In order to avoid such errors, we should understand what R?dh?-Kr?s?n?a actually is. R?dh? and Kr?s?n?a display their pastimes through Kr?s?n?a's internal energy. The pleasure potency of Kr?s?n?a's internal energy is a most difficult subject matter, and unless one understands what Kr?s?n?a is, he cannot understand it. Kr?s?n?a does not take any pleasure in this material world, but He has a pleasure potency. Because we are part and parcel of Kr?s?n?a, the pleasure potency is within us also, but we are trying to exhibit that pleasure potency in matter. Kr?s?n?a, however, does not make such a vain attempt. The object of Kr?s?n?a's pleasure potency is R?dh?r?n??, and He exhibits His potency or His energy as R?dh?r?n?? and then engages in loving affairs with Her. In other words, Kr?s?n?a does not take pleasure in this external energy but exhibits His internal energy, His pleasure potency, as R?dh?r?n??. Thus Kr?s?n?a manifests Himself as R?dh?r?n?? in order to exhibit His internal pleasure potency. Of the many extensions, expansions and incarnations of the Lord, this pleasure potency is the foremost and chief.

It is not that R?dh?r?n?? is separate from Kr?s?n?a. R?dh?r?n?? is also Kr?s?n?a, for there is no difference between the energy and the energetic. Without energy, there is no meaning to the energetic, and without the energetic, there is no energy. Similarly, without R?dh? there is no meaning to Kr?s?n?a, and without Kr?s?n?a, there is no meaning to R?dh?. Because of this, the Vais?n?ava philosophy first of all pays obeisances to and worships the internal pleasure potency of the Supreme Lord. Thus the Lord and His potency are always referred to as R?dh?-Kr?s?n?a. Similarly, those who worship the name of N?r?yan?a first of all utter the name of Laks?m?, as Laks?m?-N?r?yan?a. Similarly, those who worship Lord R?ma first of all utter the name of S?t?. In any case ? S?t?-R?ma, R?dh?-Kr?s?n?a, Laks?m?-N?r?yan?a ? the potency always comes first.

CC ?di 4.68: The essence of the hl?din? potency is love of God, the essence of love of God is emotion [bh?va], and the ultimate development of emotion is mah?bh?va.

CC ?di 4.69: ?r? R?dh? T?h?kur?n?? is the embodiment of mah?bh?va. She is the repository of all good qualities and the crest jewel among all the lovely consorts of Lord Kr?s?n?a.

CC ?di 4.70: "Of these two gop?s [R?dh?r?n?? and Candr?val?], ?r?mat? R?dh?r?n?? is superior in all respects. She is the embodiment of mah?bh?va, and She surpasses all in good qualities."

CC ?di 4.71: Her mind, senses and body are steeped in love for Kr?s?n?a. She is Kr?s?n?a's own energy, and She helps Him in His pastimes.

CC ?di 4.72: "I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who resides in His own realm, Goloka, with R?dh?, who resembles His own spiritual figure and who embodies the ecstatic potency [hl?din?]. Their companions are Her confidantes, who embody

The legend of Radha is intriguing and here are a couple of anecdotes which show the higher quality of Radha's love and her sacrifice of her love for the well being of her beloved. In view of her self-less sacrifice, her love is considered the Supreme love and her legend became immortal.

Radha Krishna is the story of love amongst these two players. Lord Krishna is depicted as the god of love, and he chose his love prey with great attention and won their hearts over. The tales of Radha Krishna are so very common and appealing that they surpass all other tales. There are several tales and stories that have been carried on down several generations that enable us to decipher the true and unyielding love that was shared by both of them, Radha Krishna. The kind of love and dedication that Radha showcased for Krishna are fantastic and hard to find in any other love pair. There are several legends that tell us of this love and how it was entrenched deeply in both their beings.

There is an excellent tale about hot milk:

This is one tale that tells us of the infinite and binding love that were shared by Radha Krishna. Radha was not Lord Krishna?s wife and her eternal love for him made all of his wives envious of her, and they wanted to do away with her somehow. So, what they did one day was to play a prank on Radha in order to make her suffer and also to test how far she would go for her beloved. Hence, they gave her a piping hot bowl of milk and asked her to drink the scalding milk saying that it was Krishna, who wanted it to be so. Surprisingly, Radha picked it up and drank it up, the hot milk and all. When the wives took back the bowl they saw that it was lord Krishna who had burned his tongue and was the one who had suffered. This proved the eternal bond that Radha Krishna shared with one another. He took upon himself her pain and suffering just like a true lover.

Another tale of the legend of Charanaamrit:

This tale further reinforces the love that Radha Krishna shared amongst them. Once when the lord Krishna became very sick the physician said that the only cure was the Charanaamrit from a true worshiper of him. All the gopis who had gathered there were asked one by one, but none of them was willing to do so. They were actually concerned about giving the water in which they usually washed their feet to the lord.

When it was Radha?s turn she did not hesitate even for a second. She said that you can go ahead and take as much as you want as I am not really bothered of getting to hell as long as my lord gets alright. His pain is more painful than the pain that I can ever experience of going to hell. Thus, Radha gave lord Krishna the Charanaamrit and this was going to be her undoing ultimately, as it is said that she couldn?t eventually, marry her lord because of this. Charanaamrit was the thing that made Krishna well again but, at the same time it stopped Radha Krishna from marrying too.

Radha Krishna is one of the classical love stories and a fable that has withstood the test of time. In Hindu mythology, there are several tales and folk stories that depict love and sensuality but this is the kind of love that Radha Krishna depicted that tugs at the heartstrings of the most romantic of hearts.
