calling all religious people!! would like to know more about any of : islam hinduism
Hi, I am investigating different world religions and would like to know (about any major world religions):
1. are there long prayers (that have to be very specific?)
2. number of gods worshiped
3. different gods' functions
4. religion at home (IE away from place of worship)
5. festivals
and anything else you think may be helpful!

I am a Buddhist and here are your answers:
1. No, our main mantra is: Om Mani pad me hum which means behold the jewel in the lotus, amen. No really a prayer, repeating it has a calming effect
2. None, we are an agnostic religion...
3. No gods...
4. Depends on the sect, some go to monasteries, temples, or zen dos. I am a member of the Theravada sect, and I meditate (not really worship ping) in any quite, natural spot, and don't even go to a place of worship. It is all at home. The others also meditate both solitaryLynd in groups...
5. Not really any "festivals", I'm afraid...

1.yes some of them is long prayers and some like me do fast also . i took the fast on Tuesday this is a day related to our god Hanumaan .and i eat ably one time after evening some curd with out salt .

I know 3 religion :
Islam = full of hate with other believer, allow violent, full pleasure for men
Buddhist = Beleive in Hell but dint believe in Heaven, Beleive in reincarnation. No Violent, teach, love, kindness, forgiveness and peace
Christians = Beleive in Jesus Christ, God of Abraham, No Violent, teach, love, kindness, forgiveness and peace.

We Muslims profess the last religion of God - Islam.
1. We believe in One God - in Allah, Arabic name for One God
2. We do not believe in Trinity! We hold Jesus (peace be upon him) as the Messenger of Allah, the prophet. In Islam Holy Spirit refers to Angel Gabriel. We believe that Jesus never preached Trinity, rather trinity concept was developed after him by his followers, who have corrupted the religion of Christianity.
3. We pray five times a day. Prayers can be done in the mosque or at home, or in any clean place. It's preferable to pray with others, therefore we try to pray in the mosque.
4. We fast in the month of Ramadhan for the whole month. The purpose of fasting is to understand the living conditions of the poor and to help them, give them charity.
5. We pay skate, it's a tax on your income. Non-Muslims who live in Islamic countries do not have to pay this tax.
6. We are encouraged to go for pilgrimage, but this is not compulsory since it requires some money to travel.
7. We believe that all the prophets that came before prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) were send by God i.e Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Ishmael, Jesus...etc We respect them and we hold them in high esteem. They are our prophets.
8. We are not taught to hate or kill anybody as it's thought by many today. We are taught to respect everybody irrespective of their religion and to treat them equally, even the enemies. There are good examples in the history that reflects this if you read.
9. We celebrate Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha. First being the end of fasting month and second a celebration of sacrifice, on this day we remember Abraham who sacrificed his son Ishmael to God. On this day we sacrifice sheep and disctribute to poor.

1) I'm not sure, its kinda relative, though from my understanding Jewish services are significantly longer on the whole than many christian ones. (Friday night services can be 1-2 hours, Saturday day services can be 3-4 hours.... and the special holiday ones can be much longer. I mean does it count as individual prayers, or compound prayers, etc...
