Ganesh is my favorite, you are probably familiar (he has an elephant head) He is the god for overcoming adversity.
Lakshmi comes in various forms (most Hindu gods have many incarnates) and she is the god for wealth in its variety of forms.

These are my basic understandings, I don't mean to offend anyone if i have got these wrong.

Most Hindu gods aren't gods in the western sense. Bramah, Shiva, and one other are analogous to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but the rest are simply powerful beings of one sort or another. Some I think were even human to begin with. Others are, or were, demons. It's really very involved.

The Goddess of Lust is called Chinnamasta aka the self-decapitated Goddess. My fave has to be Kali, the goddess of Destruction. Then there's Tara, the compassionate Goddess and Bharavi, the goddess of the dead(i think). The God of Love is Kamadeva.
