Not all Hindus worship the moon, and not all Hindus know that man has landed on it.

The Greek also worshiped moon and so did many other religions. The worship to moon or other natural elements were based on the faith of people for the effects they had on people's lives directly like food, water, economy, etc. It had less to do with whether they had been "conquered-over" or not. This made the elements not only sacred, but more importantly they became protected by people and communities for future generations to utilize.

its that the moon has a incarnation that changes everyday.first he goes through a bad phase and when he goes to worst possible stay,he bounces back to a full moon.thus they take him as a inspiration.its not that someone has landed on the moon, they take inspiration ,as i said.
