According to Islam, what happens to the soul when someone dies, before it is buried i
i know what happens to the soul in the grave (being questioned by the 2 angels and all) but what i want to know is what happens before that when it is being prayed for. is the soul still within the body or already extracted once a person dies?
It hangs around until the body is buried and a prayer is recited, then it goes down under. Then it is asked 3 questions: Who was your God, What was your religion, who was your messenger. If a person can answer these questions correctly (Good Muslims) then they rest in peace until Judgement Day. If they can't answer, then the grave tightens down on them, and they wait in agony for Judgement Day.
Angel Israel comes and removes the spirit from the person - once the spirit is removed the person has no more life. The person still has a soul and that is what gives you your eternal life (as opposed to moral life) and it is your soul which goes up to God
