Default Will you please explain me, where Quran tells us about the Big Bang theory?

My friend told me that Quran tells us about the Big Bang theory. But, he was not sure, where it is written. Is it true, what he said? Please give details.

Why would a book written by people who didn't even have indoor plumbing know anything about matters of the 20Th century?

The Qumran doesn't. Islamic televangelists will desperately claim otherwise, though.

They aren't anymore trustworthy than christian televangelists to be honest.

it doesn't.

it says that the (seven) heavens and the earth were 'gloved', and it says that the universe is big.

After, the big bang theory was proposed by scientists, the English translations of the Qumran miraculously started saying that the universe is not just big, but getting bigger (expanding).

the claims of the Qumran being scientific only began in the 1980s, and by one or two dishonest people

its ad hock creative and desperate interpretation. and even after this, its still not very convincing

Oh, at that place where it says god tore the earth and sky apart.

Doesn't sound like the Big Bang? Mainly because it isn't like the Big Bang :P

"Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise." -- Quran 4:56

Big Bang:

"Do those who reject not realize that the heavens and the earth used to be closed up before we parted them..." (Quran 21:30)
==
"Then He turned to the heaven when it was as smoke, and He said to it, and to the Earth: "Come together willingly or unwillingly." They said: "We come (into being) willingly."..." (Quran 41:11)
==
"...We have constructed the heavens with might, and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it... " (Quran 51:47)
==

@Tess Tickle
Interesting. Did you know that verse is one of the earliest evidence of existence of pain receptors?

Nothing. There's some nonsense about "smoke," but Muslims only get from that to the Big Bang theory by mental gymnastics, misrepresenting the text, and misrepresenting the science.

Added: @Asker, I apologize for thinking that you were proselytizing. I've deleted that portion of my answer that made that accusation.

Perfect illustration of the silliness of these claims - Tess Tickle posts a verse about Allah torturing unbelievers and Peace Walker Pakistani claims that it's "earliest evidence of existence of pain receptors."
Unbelievable.

"Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and to the earth: 'Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly.' They said: 'We do come (together), in willing obedience.' So He completed them as seven firmaments in two Days, and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge. (41:11-12)"

"Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?" (21:30)

-the universe is geometric.
-it was brought together in an explosion and is ever expanding
(According to the Quran)

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autographs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long,
As every galaxy was formed in less time than it takes to sing this song.
A fraction of a second and the elements were made.
The bipeds stood up straight,
The dinosaurs all met their fate,
They tried to leap but they were late
And they all died (they froze their asses off)
The oceans and Pangaea
See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya
Set in motion by the same big bang!

It all started with the big BANG!

It's expanding ever outward but one day
It will cause the stars to go the other way,
Collapsing ever inward, we won't be here, it wont be hurt
Our best and brightest figure that it'll make an even bigger bang!

Australopithecus would really have been sick of us
Debating out while here they're catching deer (we're catching viruses)
Religion or astronomy, Encarta, Deuteronomy
It all started with the big bang!

Music and mythology, Einstein and astrology
It all started with the big bang!
It all started with the big BANG!

Each religion claim that they have scientific answers in their books.. But no proof in that.. It's some sort of religious propaganda..

It doesn't. This claim is based on several commonly-quoted tracts from the Koran and creative Muslim writers have, at best, interpreted them as referring to this, at worst they have selectively translated, quoted out of context and distorted the science to fit (such as comparing 'smoke' with gas in space).

Its only been about twenty years or so that people have been saying these things. In the past, scholars of the Koran have taken those verses as meaning something entirely different.
