Default In islam, is it acceptable to divorce for this reason?

For reasons of an abusive spouse, emotionally and physically. And a spouse who does not respect his partner. The husband also drinks alcohol and becomes abusive after wards. He also has a very selfish personality and does not care.

Or do you think that the wife should continue to sacrifice herself in a life of unhappiness with this person.

Yes that would be acceptable for them reasons, as it is immoral behavior.

Regardless of Islam you should not be in this relationship.

This is definitely not acceptable behavior. My sweet sister we are beautiful women and don't deserve this no matter what. Allah teaches love and peace not harm your wife. If he is drinking and violent this is going against everything Islam stands for. Get out while you still can. I am divorced, with a child, and Muslim. You can do it too inhale!

Islam is very much clear in all its concepts. Islam has given a equal right of divorce. if a women found that her husband is not good for her in any way she can claim for Khula and if a man feel that his wife is not good for him he can leave her.
