What is Islam?:
The name of the religion is Islam, which comes from an Arabic root word meaning "peace" and "submission." Islam teaches that one can only find peace in ones life by submitting to Almighty God (Allah) in heart, soul and deed. The same Arabic root word gives us "Salaam alum," ("Peace be with you"), the universal Muslim greeting.
Who is a Muslim?:
A person who believes in and consciously follows Islam is called a Muslim, also from the same root word. So, the religion is called "Islam," and a person who believes in and follows it is a "Muslim."
Because they believe in different things seeing that you may not have your facts straight...India is divided into to groups Islams and Muslims and two say they are the same thing is quite offensive. It's been this way since the 1800's.
Muslim( one who submits) is derived from Islam ( submission)in Arabic which does not follow the grammar rules of English or Romance languages and ha sits own rules
Because someone who submits to Islam becomes a 'Muslam'
Christ spoke Aramaic and said: ""I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, BUT THE WILL OF HIM THAT SENT ME." (John; 5:30). As per this definition, Jesus was a Mushlam, according to his language and a Muslim, according to the Arabic language. He explains this further in Luke 6:40:
Aramaic: "Ein Talmud Neale 'AL Rabbi; she ken Kala Adam sheepishly yihyeh k'rabbo."
Translation: "The disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone that is perfect, shall be as his teacher."
The word "kal adam" means "all people" or "all mankind." Mushlam means Muslim. Therefore, he is telling the entire humanity that in order to be like him, they have to be Mushlam, or in Arabic, Muslim.
Islam is a religion of Peace_
And we Muslims keep our Merciful Creator?s instructions in mind, ?Keep to forgiveness. And enjoin kindness?7:199. ?And do good, that happily you may prosper.?22:77. ?Peace is best? 4:128.?? and offer peace,?God gives you no excuse to fight ..." (Al-Infaal: 61). ??and do good; no doubt good doers are the beloved of Allah? 2:195. ?And speak ?with gentle speech?20:44. ??and race with one another to do good.?2:148 ?We have enjoined on man, kindness??29:8.?And do not insult?? 6:108 ?Allah orders justice and kindness..?16:90
?Our Lord,.. You are the best of the Merciful.?? 23:109. If practiced with sincerity, Islam guarantees happiness in this world and the next. Having granted this great gift of God to humanity what else could we do but say ?All praise is due to Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and to Him belongs all praise in the Hereafter. And He is the Merciful, the Forgiving? 34:1-2
