Hmmmmmm, biggest threat to .....???? What? Western Civilization? I would say not, its rotting and going broke from the inside out not by some threat from the outside. If it so chose, the West could pummel and grab the resources and wealth of just about the rest of the globe but chooses not to. That restraint is a marvel to its ideals and maturity, led by the US's (historical mind you) nature ... such a culture of restrained power was unimaginable just a little more than a century ago.

They seem to be the least liberal religious power, so a threat to advancing the human species, yes. If you mean a violent threat to belief, they are no more a threat than any other religion.

Islam has been around from about 1400 years ago, the terrorism only began when dictators took over the Muslim countries and oppressed the populations, this all happened while the great power countries including the USA were supporting the dictators just for the sake of the oil in that region. And these "power countries" are ignoring all the violence and injustice that has been practiced on the populations, so after all this pressure the masses exploded.

Biggest threat is western imperialism.
