Default Is praying just a reward system in Islam?

and why did Allah find it necessary to make 5 appointments at certain times with him a day to hear prayers.

No, of course not.
God doesn't need us, we need him.
Praying enforces a few things upon Muslims.
One of these is responsibility - you miss a prayer, you have to pay it back.
Another is cleanliness - you've GOT to be clean when you pray, so in that sense, it makes sure you're clean throughout the day.
Discipline is also another.

These things are all important for society is a whole.
Also, in most Muslim countries especially, people make an effort to pray together on time, which brings the community together.

Yes it is. God doesn't want a ritualistic worship. He wants us to genuinely want a relationship with Him, to want to be close. He doesn't force it, doesn't want repetition, doesn't want pagan aspects like ablution and preset times and movements. Allah just wants slaves. God wants His children!

Theres a difference between supplication and the five daily prayers

Allah (Set) listens to supplications any time of the day/night....and there is Wisdom behind the timings of Salah.....they reconnect you with Him and keep you reminded and conscious of the Hereafter....

And Allah knows best..

'I have not created the jinns and men but they shall worship me' (Quran)'

To a Muslim the meaning of 'worship' is not limited to the 5 obligatory prayers only, but his or her whole activities of life. The 5 prayers are hence just one form of worship.

Though too numerous is the wisdom behind the daily 5 prayers ordained to put them in writing here, but essentially it is to learn morality, self discipline, punctuality, realities of this and the afterlife, responsibilities towards the family and the society, understanding unity and equality etc. etc. etc., all this for the sake of and to please Allah.

Thus the daily 5 prayers are considered the 'backbone' and the vital part of Muslim worship.
Also because, a day can be only divided into 5 parts i.e. Dawn, Noon, Afternoon, Evening and Night.
So, as a Mercy from Allah, in a nutshell, it is considered remembering and worship ping Allah the whole day, the absence of which was the root cause for the destruction of many earlier generations.

Hope that helps.
And Allah knows best.

Apart from that those "prayers" are just vain repetitions.

In all religions, you have to pray to God because he has low self-esteem so he needs help to overcome it.

That's what religious people have got to look forward to in heaven. No scientific discoveries like DNA, no healing the sick or finding cures/vaccines. Just an eternity of constant thanks and praise.

I'd rather be in hell.

Cleaniness came from evolution. The cleanest humans were the healthiest and had more kids and the dirty got an infection and died young so they did not pass on their genes for uncleanliness.

Discipline also came from evolution. Behaving in a disciplined way means you're more likely to find food and shelter. The lazy humans died because they couldn't find food.

People only do it, because they've been brainwashed from birth.
