Default Why is a translation of the Quran handled differently to a usual Quran?

I have read that a non-Muslim cannot touch a Quran. I have read that a non-Muslim may touch a translated Quran. I just wondered why this was?
Is a Quran written in Arabic considered more holy that a Quran written in English? And why is this? Is Arabic considered a holy language?
Would this rule also mean that a Quran written in English could be placed on the floor or in the bathroom without some sin being committed?
to Nana Messy: I have read on many websites that a non-Muslim cannot touch a Quran, Im pretty sure that this is a proper rule, like this website http://islam.about.com/od/quran/f/mushaf.htm

alright, i will answer this as best as i can. first off a non- Muslim SURE CAN touch the Qumran even in Arabic, ID where u read this but yes a non-Muslim can touch it. the Qumran in Arabic is considered more holy because that is the form that Allah sent it in. he didn't send it in English he sent it in Arabic so the very word of god came down in arabic that is why the english translation isnt called "the quran" it is strictly called "the translation of the quran." this is because the quran itself came down in arabic so yes, this makes arabic the holy language. no you cant put the translation on the floor because those are the teaching of god in that book, even though they are in english, they are still what god wants of us and god's word is holy.

One must be pure before touching a scripture containing the direct words of the king.

It is not for every impure person to lay their hands on pure scripture.

Allah revealed it in Arabic and the exact words are only in Arabic.

Translations are not the exact words of Allah a lot of Arabic words etc cannot even be translated literally and there are a lot of added in words etc.

So it is basically not the true Curran because it is in English etc.

Arabic itself is not holy Qur'an is holy Arabic just happens to be the language Allah chose in his wisdom to reveal it in.

Translated Qur'ans still teach the truth and have Allah's name in there so no you can't take it into filthy places.

There is a verse in Qur'an about how only the purified touch it so we don't allow Muslims without Urdu to even touch it until they make wudu and become pure.

One should have respect for Allah's words and have such fear of him that they wouldn't let just any non-muslim run off with his words to do who knows what with it.

Salam

56:75. Nay, I swear by the places of the stars -
76. And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew -
77. That (this) is indeed a noble Qur'an
78. In a Book kept hidden
79. Which none toucheth save the purified,
80. A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

The Arabic words of Quran were revealed by God to Prophet Mohammad SAW. No one can change, add or delete even a letter from that Arabic Text. Arabic text of Quran is holy scripture from God. It can only be touched by uncleaned hands. Even Muslims also have to make sadhu (wash hands up to elbows, feet up to ankles, face, mouth and run wet hands over their head). Arabic language is not holy. All other books on any subject written in Arabic can be touched and handled by any person including Non-Muslims whether they wash themselves or not. Only the Arabic Text of Quran can not be touched by unclean hands and by Non-Muslims.

Because Non-Muslims have no respect for Quran, they may not treat it with respect, we can't be sure that the Non-Muslim will wash himself before holding Arabic Quran in his hand. For this reason we prefer to give them only translation of Quran in English or in any other language to read and understand.

Edited.

Naked Truth has made a stupid comment without using her head in her answer. Arabic Text of Quran is called classical Arabic because test of Quran is Holy Scripture from God, it is as it was revealed to Prophet Mohammad 1430 years ago and not a single letter of Quranic Text has been changed, deleted or added in it. It will remain as it was first revealed until the end of this world because Quranic text was and has always been memorized by millions of Muslims in all Muslim countries to preserve its originality. Non-Muslims should be careful what they say about Holy scripture of Islam and not shoot out disrespectfully without using their intelligence.

The classical Arabic Quran could not have been the words of God as spoken to Mohammad because at the time of Mohammad, there was no Classic Arabic language; it came much later.

Not allowing the non Muslims to touch it, is 'extremism'.
Islam is against extremism.

How in heaven can the non Muslim learn the Quran, if disallowed to touch it. I mean both the Arabic or the Translation?

It should be remembered that the Quran was first revealed for the non Muslims who than became Muslims upon understanding it.

It is still the Book for non Muslims as well. Not for the Muslims alone..
