JoAnna dear, you have the question posted in the wrong country. I will answer your question briefly from what I know. There are 2 types of Jain sects they are the Digambar and the Svetambar. Digambar is the more "strict" of the two.
Jainism has influenced Hinduism in many ways, primarily the influence of vegetarianism. Jainism does not have a supreme being overlooking its practice. Jain's believe that every living thing has divinity and soul within itself. They do not harm and avoid killing any living thing.
Through the practice of the 5 major pathways of practice, a Jain is able to attain salvation and break out of the cycle of birth and death. This takes a long time to achieve as it is through the attainment of wisdom and requires self control. The final outcome is to achieve Moksha from karma (the act of good and bad deeds). Moksha is the freedom from the cycle of birth and death.
