This is a very good question and many who start on their real path to become a JAIN (or JIN) should ask themselves this question. In short, Jainism is based on reality or truth of nature. And as nature is only comprised of logic, so is Jainism. Many know Mahavira as the 24Th Thirthankara (or God if you want to call him) in this time cycle. Yet, if you look/study little further you'll realize that he was the greatest scientist of his time. Whatever he learned or preached, he himself had experimented and gotten results. It is after years and births that he was able to be perfect. There are many examples that show that Jainism is strictly based on logic:
1. Mahavira had said that minute things including air, plants, water, etc. have life. Only till recently has so called current science discovered life in those elements.
2. Jainism says that we were never created nor can we be destroyed (IE. souls are eternal). How can this be true? We all know that soul is another word for energy in the body. Without the soul nothing in the body (including heart, brain, organs, etc.) seems to work. And we have all learned in science that energy can never be created or destroyed.
These are just some of the examples. Unfortunately many times we tend to disbelief things we don't see. But that doesn't mean that they are not true or illogical. For example, we can't see electricity till it is active in form of light. Yet, we still believe it to exist. I agree that nothing should be taken on blind faith. But just because we don't know or understand, that doesn't mean that it is NOT true or doesn't exist. And for you to think a little more, isn't logic also determined by each individual. Something that is logical to us, may not necessarily be logical to someone else. This whole new topic in Jainism called multiplicity of viewpoints. No single view is entirely wrong or right.
