lord Buddha described life( living creature as this)
if a creature can see,feel,hear or act on his own and poses a Hinayana(composition of life, feel,sens,hear,see,etc) its a living creature. viruses aren't living creatures. virus doesn't act on it own it start to affect only when it finds cells.

Scientifically viruses don't usually count as 'alive'...but I looked it up and in Jainsim they are tyrannic, same as animals, so yes.
