Jainism is a religion that began in ancient India. While it may share some common beliefs with Hinduism it is it's own distinct religion. Some of it's well known tenants include Ahimsa, or a strict adherence to non violence, as well as a strict vegetarian diet.

That is almost like Buddhism. No violence. The most strict monks, they wander naked with their mouth covered(avoiding killing germs)and with a broom sweeping the ants away to not step on.

Jainism is an Indian religion that emphasizes complete non-violence and asceticism. It began in the sixth century BC, the same time Buddhism was developing. The faith is named for the Jonas, spiritual conquerors who have achieved liberation and perfection. Included among these are the 24 spiritual leaders called "ford-makers" or tankards.Rarsing ritual centers around on sacred images and mantras.

According to The Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy:

"Jainism One of the three heterodox Dasha's or branches of Hinduism. Jainism traces its origins to Vardhamana, a successor to twenty-three previous ?ford makers?, or teachers who enabled the faithful to cross the stream leading to release from the cycle of existence. Its practice demands a monastic life of extreme austerity; for example, one sect is the Digambara or ?sky-clad?, perhaps identical with the gymnasts (Greek, naked + wisdom) reported by the companions of Alexander on his conquest of Northern India, who practise nudism. The Buddha practiced Jain asceticism before realizing that it did not in itself contain the key to the radiant release from the cares of the world that he was seeking."
