A person named Mahavira was the founder of Jainism. It became an extreme sect of Buddhism. Because Buddhism taught that no person should hurt a living thing, Mahavira took it to extremes. Jains (as practitioners of Jainism are called) had brooms, with which they sweep away any possible small living things (such as ants) that they would otherwise step on. Another radical practice that the Jains have is to cover their mouths, so that they don't breathe in any microscopic organisms. The Jains still exist today. If you ask me, though, that sect is kind of weird.
