Have you seen their dietary restrictions?! I really do think it goes back that saying "beware the undertaking of endeavors that require the purchase of new clothes" except replace purchase of new clothes with "complete overhaul of your diet". At least the Buddhists I know tend to be somewhat moderate in their zeal to not kill and most end up eating some meat.

I think it's partly that Buddhism emphasizes its tenants regardless of whether you adhere to all of them. It's "okay" to be a "part time Buddhist" without really following the whole set of beliefs.

Where as Jainism is just so intense, no ones really being a part-time Jainist.

There are fewer Jains and so less people and or attempts to explain it for a wider audience have been made.

Oy, forgot all about that religion. I had to jar my memory and look it up on Wikipedia.

Anyway, I really don't have an answer to your question. You stumped the Sick Puppy.
